College Flag Football Enters a New Championship Chapter

On June 17, 2026, the NAIA announced that women’s flag football would become its 30th championship sport. The change begins with the 2026–27 academic year, with the first national championship planned for spring 2027. The announcement also projected 60 sponsoring institutions for the academic year.

What it means for families

The milestone gives girls flag athletes another reason to research college programs early. Look beyond a program’s name: learn its academic options, recruiting priorities, admissions requirements, and the coaching staff’s preferred way to receive athlete information.

Keep graduation year, academics, position, school statistics, and useful game film easy to find. Verify each program’s current status through its official athletics website. A growing college pathway creates opportunities to explore; it does not guarantee a roster place or scholarship.
